Faux Stained Glass

Sometimes I see a design and instantly know what I want to create. Faux stained glass may have been an obvious choice with these designs, but I needed to come up with a simple way to create the look using supplies I had on hand. After figuring out which products to use, my little crafter was as eager as I was to get started.Faux Stained Glass Kids Craft | Analisa Murenin for SilhouetteThe trick to making these faux stained glass designs is using frosted vinyl as a base. I cut only the outline of the design from the frosted vinyl. Then my son filled in each design with a light layer of kids paint..Faux Stained Glass Kids Craft | Analisa Murenin for SilhouetteI cut the designs from printable silver foil as the paint dried. Once the paint was completely dry, I layered the printable silver foil on the vinyl piece.Faux Stained Glass Kids Craft | Analisa Murenin for Silhouette

Transfer paper isn’t needed (or recommended) since the printable silver foil gives the frosted vinyl stability. Simply peel up each design and stick them on your window. The frosted vinyl allows just enough light to shine through the paint and mimic the look of stained glass.Faux Stained Glass Kids Craft | Analisa Murenin for Silhouette

My son was more than happy to get involved since he’s all about painting. He beams seeing his creations displayed on the window. If you’re artistically skilled, you could be more intricate while painting these faux stained glass pieces. It’s is a fun craft for all ages and painting abilities!

Hi there, I’m Analisa! I love to travel and explore new places along with my husband and son. When we’re not on the go I’m happily crafting. I’ve been a crafter for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I collected every craft kit I could get my hands on. Not much has changed. I love my Silhouette because it such a versatile instrument for creating. I can stencil fabric with one project, then create stickers for my son with the next. I love experimenting with all it can do.
