Multicolor Sketched Scrapbook Layout

Well I can now finally say that I’ve tried the new Curio! That’s right. I finally had a chance to open up the box and play with this fun new machine!  I must admit that I was intimidated at first because I was worried about learning a new machine. But it is honestly very easy to use.

I thought I’d try an easier project for my first use of the Curio. So I created a layout using the sketch pens.  I was super excited at the thought of being able to use 2 sketch pens. What a great idea!!

Here’s the layout that I created.

As you can see I used the Sketch Pens to create the title and little swirl shapes.

It was very simple to do.

I just chose my design (and luckily – everything came in one file!).  (This design is not a sketch design but you can still use the sketch pens.) So I opened the design up and began changing the line colors.  This is good idea because it helps you know what color sketch pens you are using and when they’re being used.

You’ll notice in the cut settings window that there’s a red circle and a blue circle. These circles are indicated on the pen/blade holders in the machine.  So I placed the brown sketch pen in the side with the red circle and the green sketch pen in the slot for the blue circle.  (on the green sketch pen – where highlighted above – you can right click on it and choose to pause after the sketching is done. This allows you to change the pens again when using other colors).  I chose to use four sketch pens and let me tell you this design was done in no time because of the dual holder. I love that!

Once the sketched design was complete I replaced the sketch pens with the blade. (make sure to put it in the correct holder – red circle side)

I then created an offset image of the design. As you can see from the picture below I moved the original design image aside so that I was just left with the offset image. I then, choose Adhesive Backed Cardstock and sent it through the Curio again for the design to be cut out.

I then placed all the pieces on to my layout along with my photos and other embellishments.

Here’s some close-up pictures of the sketched images.

It’s always fun to add dimension to your projects by using some foam squares just as I did for the title Autumn. It might be a bit tedious to do but the end result is worth it!

I hope that I’ve encouraged you to open up your box and start playing with your Curio!

HI there! I’m Cari Locken from Langley, BC, Canada. I’m a wife and mother of 3 amazing kids! I have been crafting since I was a child and love the creative outlet that this hobby brings to me. My formal training is in the area of music as I have a Masters degree in Music and I am currently teaching Band (to Grades 5, 6 & &) as well as private piano lessons. However I always find time to dig out my scrappy supplies and work on a few projects here & there. I love creating scrapbook layouts, preserving the everyday moments and special memories of our family life as well as creating cards & home decor items . Other than scrapbooking I enjoy spending time watching my children play sports, reading, knitting, photography and cooking. I’m thrilled to be a part of the Silhouette Team!
