Putting a newborn to sleep is hard, but keeping them asleep is even harder! These days, I try to be as quiet as I can be when my newborn is snoozing away, but when you are addicted to online shopping this can be difficult. I get a new package about every other day, (sometimes even multiple times a day). Every time a package arrives, I hear the doorbell ring loudly. I am a new mom and I realized just how important it is for the carriers to not ring the doorbell! Nothing is worse than waking up a sleeping baby!
I wanted to create a sign on the window letting friends, family and carriers know to not ring the doorbell when we have a newborn that sleeps 20 hours a day. All parents can agree that once a baby is asleep we will do anything to not wake him or her up! I love using my Silhouette CAMEO® for projects like this because it makes it easy and fast. I can customize any design I want with the white or clear Window Cling material.

Step 1: Load your design to the Silhouette Studio®
You can either create a custom image on the Silhouette Studio® or use a picture you have purchased through the Silhouette Design Store. I bought my Baby Sleeping image via the Silhouette Design Store. If you are uploading your own image, the image can either be in .jpg or .png format. simply import the image by selecting File → Open and select your image. After loading the image, you can resize the image until it fits your needs.
If you bought an image from the Silhouette Design Store, simply click on your library and double click the image you would like to use. The image should automatically appear in your Silhouette Studio®.
This next part is optional: After I loaded my Baby Sleeping image to my Silhouette Studio®, I filled it in with my desired colors using the fill panel.
Next, you are going to create an offset around the entire design. By opening the offset panel, you can adjust the distance until it fits your needs. The moon, the stars, and even the words in my Baby Sleeping image are made up of little pieces. Each little piece will move if you do not group it with other pieces. To group these little pieces, select all the pieces you want to group together then select Object → Group. All your pieces should end up in a group so they will not move out of place.
Step 2: Creating registration marks
For this project, we will be using the Print & Cut feature. When using this feature it is important to use the Registration Marks setting. Click on View → Registration marks, and you will see the gray boxes appear on your Silhouette Design Studio®. Your home printer will print the marks on the printed paper, which will help the Silhouette CAMEO® detect where your design is.
Remember to keep your designs within the gray box for printing! Having the image within the gray box will let your Silhouette CAMEO® know where to cut, which will ensure that your Silhouette CAMEO® will have the perfect cut.
Step 3: Send your design to your home printer
Once you have set up the registration marks, you are now ready to print! My printer is always on default black and white printing, so if your image is in color, make sure the color option is checked.
It is also very important to make sure that you have your Window Cling Material paper already loaded on your home printer. For the best result, it’s good to use an ink printer when printing on the Window Cling Material.
Step 4: Silhouette Cut Settings for Window Cling Material
When you are ready, place the Window Cling Material on the Cameo Cutting Mat, then click the “Send” tab and adjust your cut settings.
Under Material select “Window Cling Material.” According to the Silhouette Handbook, the settings for the Window Cling Material are blade 2, speed 8, thickness 14.
Next, select “Cut Edges.” This will cut around your image. Just hit “Send to Silhouette” and your Silhouette CAMEO® will start cutting!
Step 5: Peel and Stick your Design
When the cutting is complete, carefully remove the sticker from your Silhouette Cutting Mat. Remember to clean your window surface so it will stay on longer.
Now, my newborn won’t be startled when the doorbell rings several times a day! She can take as many naps as she wants without any interruptions. For all the new mommies out there: happy napping!
