Halloween is almost upon us and if you are looking for some last-minute decor or a fun and unique way to decorate your pumpkin this year, look no further than my glitter owl!
This project is a lot easier than it might seem. You’ll need a cutting mat, some double-sided adhesive and glitter in the color of your choice! I picked out an adorable owl design in the Silhouette design store and sized it to fit my pumpkin.
With double-sided adhesive, you want to set your blade to a depth of 4 so it will cut through all the layers! Place the yellow-side down onto your mat. I would also suggest using a light hold cutting mat so the paper doesn’t get too stuck to the mat!
Once you run the double-sided adhesive through your Silhouette, carefully peel off the whole sheet, keeping the layers intact. Then pop out your owl and weed out the top layer of things you don’t want to get glittery. Make sure you weed out the white layer, the adhesive middle layer, and the yellow bottom layer for the pieces you don’t want. Once you’re satisfied with your weeding, peel off the yellow layer and apply your design to your pumpkin.
Pumpkin surfaces are a little uneven, so try to get your design as straight and as even as you can. Press down on the white paper, making sure you get the sticky layer into the grooves of the pumpkin. If you are using a real pumpkin, make sure your surface is dry before applying!
Peel off the white paper, revealing your adhesive design underneath. Slowly pour your glitter on the sticky area and spread it around with either your fingers or a dry paintbrush.
I just love how textured and sparkly the glitter is! It really makes this owl POP against the white background of the pumpkin! Since I used a faux pumpkin, I’ll get to use this sweet little piece of decor for years to come!
Make a whole flock of little owls, or use some other Halloween designs from Silhouette’s Design Store to make your front porch pop with a little glitz and glam!
