Hello friends and happy summer! It’s so nice to be hanging out in the sunshine again! Summer is a great time for crossing things of our bucket lists – traveling to cool places, trying new things, having adventures. But I realized that doing all those things without the one I love would be pretty meaningless. If I want to complete things on my list, I’d rather do it with my husband by my side! So decided to make this lovely hanging wall banner to express my sentiments 🙂
Hanging Wall Banner Materials
- Hanger with a pants rod
- Glitter Heat Transfer Material
- Silhouette CAMEO
- Kraft Paper
If desired, tape off your hanger and spray paint with your favorite hue. My hanger was actually one that some curtains came on and I used my go-to aqua hue.
Make a template for your banner that will fit the width of the pants rod on your hanger. I used a couple pieces of kraft paper taped together and drew a nice pennant shape and cut it out.
Place your kraft paper template onto some fabric of your choice and trace around it with a pen. If you’re worried about ink bleed, use a washable pen meant for fabrics! Cut out your banner with a pair of sharp scissors.
Open your Silhouette software and pick your favorite font. I decided to go with my new fave – JessFont! Type out your phrase and then mess around with the letter and line spacing by moving the little sliders in the bottom right hand corner of the text style menu.
Once you are happy with the spacing, be sure to flip your text! If you don’t, once you cut it on the heat transfer material it will end up backwards! And you don’t want that 🙂 To flip the text, select it, and then go to the Object tab at the top of the software, select ‘Mirror’, and then ‘Flip Horizonatally’ – now your text will be the right way for when you iron it on!
Turn on your Silhouette machine, and hook it up to your computer via the USB cable. Set your cut settings to ‘Flocked Heat Transfer Material’ and change your blade depth accordingly. Make sure you put the Heat Transfer Material into your CAMEO with the shiny glitter side facing down! Just stick the edge of the roll in your machine, and hit “Load Media” and you’re good to go! Hit “Send to Silhouette” on your software and watch it cut away!
Once your design is all cut, weed your design with a hook tool until you are just left with your text design.
Place your text design on your fabric banner and move it around until you’re satisfied with it’s placement. Then place a washcloth or another piece of fabric over your design. Put your iron no higher than the cotton setting and then go over your design slowly, firmly pressing down with slow strokes.
Pull back the washcloth and try to peel the plastic off. If the letters come off with the plastic it’s not ready yet – keep ironing until the letters stick to the fabric and not the plastic sheet. Once it’s all set, pull back the plastic and reveal your beautiful creation!
Peel the tape off your hanger once the spray paint has dried. Loop your banner around the pants rod and then use a bit of hot glue to hold the edge in place.
And with that, you’re all done! Now just find the perfect spot to hang it 🙂
Now that you have a lovely bucket list hanging wall banner, now’s the time to get out there and do things you’ve always wanted to do with the ones you love by your side! Happy adventuring 🙂
