You know that favorite pair of shoes you’ve worn in to perfection? Sadly, mine were looking more worn than perfect. I wasn’t about to give them up so I decided to give them new life instead. It is amazing what a good cleaning and some fabric ink can do!
I didn’t want to get too crazy and detailed so I chose a simple stencil with dots. Stencil vinyl is perfect for projects like this since it has a little give if you need it. I find that with simple designs like this one it is easier to just pull the stencil vinyl directly off of the backing after it has been cut. It sure beats weeding out all of those dots and messing with transfer tape.
I eyeballed the placement of the stencil and smoothed it down with my fingers. Then I gently dabbed on a little bit of fabric ink at a time. Honestly, I wasn’t going for perfection here. I like how some painted areas look a bit faded.
I pulled the stencil off right away and left the shoes to dry. Once completely dry, they were ready to be laced and shown off.
Stenciling works great for adding personality to new shoes too so don’t be afraid to give it a try. Just because I’m an adult doesn’t mean I can’t have a little fun with my shoes!
