With the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition, it’s easy to take any shape or phrase from your library and turn it into a fun sketch shape! If you haven’t already, grab this week’s free shape and follow along… {Don’t have the designer edition, but thinking about upgrading? We have a 40% off sale going on now through July 31! Find all of the details here.}
- Open the shape from your library
- Open the sketch window
- With the shape selected: in the ‘Edge Sketch’ menu select ‘Plain’
- In the ‘Fill Sketch’ menu select ‘Diamond Hatch’
Now, the fun part. In the advanced menu you can adjust the fill effects to get many different looks. Just move the toggles around until you see something you like. I wanted to keep this one simple, so I just adjusted the spacing of the diamond hatch by moving the spacing slider all the way to the left.
I used the simple heart shape below to show the different ‘Edge Sketch’ and ‘Fill Sketch’ options you can get with just one click. Keep in mind too that within the advanced window you can make additional adjustments to each of those options. Hundreds of possibilities!
Now, when your design is complete and you are ready to sketch:
- Load your paper/mat into the Silhouette
- Simply replace your blade with a sketch pen
- Select Silhouette Sketch Pen from the Cut Settings window and click send to Silhouette.
Easy, right?
Happy sketching!
I love playing with the sketch options! I tend to stick with a few favorite styles, but I like the fine-tuning capabilities for just the right look.
How would I write a cursive word that is connected,plz?
Hi Rebecca!
Once you type the word in the font you want, be sure that each letter is overlapping the one next to it slightly, then right click and select weld. { you can also select weld in the modify window} Hope that helps 🙂
