Hello Sunshine Scrapbook Layout

Do you ever find in yourself sticking with the same techniques on all of your craft projects? When it comes to scrapbooking I have a few ‘signature moves’… paint splatter, tabs, and speech bubbles. My pages just don’t feel complete without them. But, so that my pages don’t all start looking the same I am trying to incorporate some new techniques and thought I’d share one of them with you today.

Before I started my page, I did something I don’t usually do and I printed the photo first. I really like the composition of the photo because it has plenty of resting space on the right side which is a great place for the title and other little bits. It ended up being pretty bright though and was competing with my title, and there really wasn’t a place for the eye to focus. So, I came up with a quick fix. To keep the focus on the main subject of the photo without losing the rest of the image, I created a vellum overlay with a custom cut out using my CAMEO.

Here’s a closer look…

I love how the photo really pops, and it’s so easy to do! In Silhouette studio, I opened the photo and the shape I wanted to use as my overlay. Then I drew the shape I wanted the photo to peek through and moved it right over the top of both the photo and overlay. When it was placed exactly where I wanted it, I deleted the photo and it was all set to cut. Easy peasy, and I think it would be fun to try it again with other shapes.

Of course the photo should be the focus of the page, but the little bits and details are important too. For some of the details on my page I used the new printable cotton canvas. Normally I would have print/cut them out of cardstock, but the canvas just gives it one more texture and adds a different dimension to my page. {Have I mentioned that I love the canvas? I am finding all sorts of ways to use it in my crafting!}

I hope today’s project has inspired you to try something new on your next project! You never know what you’ll come up with. You just might create yourself a new signature move! 🙂
Make it a great day!
