Curio Sketched Coasters | Analisa Murenin for Silhouette

One of the main reasons I was drawn to Curio is its 5mm clearance. It gives you so many options! I may or may not have browsed the craft store with a ruler looking for new materials to craft on. With so many creative possibilities, the wood crafts aisle drew me in. These blank wooden disks ended up being perfect for my cozy coasters.Curio Sketched Coasters | Analisa Murenin for Silhouette

I liked the cup design but wanted to fill it in more with the sketch pens. I ended up using the embossing feature to my advantage by applying a tightly spaced concentric effect to the design. Keep in mind I didn’t actually emboss the design onto the wood, I simply used it to create a fuller design.Curio Sketched Coasters | Analisa Murenin for Silhouette

I haven’t been able to get a hold of the PixScan™ mat yet, but I have an easy trick for perfectly centering sketches on simple shapes.

I drew a circle the same size as my wood pieces and cut it out of cardstock. Once it was cut, I removed only the circle from the cutting mat.

Since I needed there to be enough clearance for the wood piece, I removed platforms and put the cutting mat back on top. By placing the wood piece in the same spot as the circle, I knew exactly where the design would be sketched.Curio Sketched Coasters | Analisa Murenin for SilhouetteCurio Sketched Coasters | Analisa Murenin for Silhouette

The sketch pens worked beautifully on the wood. The ink is vibrant and doesn’t smudge. I took some acrylic paint and brushed the edges of each coaster with a similar color of paint. It’s definitely not necessary, but it was fun! If you’re rough on your coasters you might want to consider sealing them for added protection.Curio Sketched Coasters | Analisa Murenin for Silhouette

These wooden coasters are cute, cozy, and perfect for all those warm weather drinks.

Hi there, I’m Analisa! I love to travel and explore new places along with my husband and son. When we’re not on the go I’m happily crafting. I’ve been a crafter for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I collected every craft kit I could get my hands on. Not much has changed. I love my Silhouette because it such a versatile instrument for creating. I can stencil fabric with one project, then create stickers for my son with the next. I love experimenting with all it can do.
