There have been some questions about how to set up your Curio in the Silhouette Studio®! So… I am here to help!
I am using the free version Silhouette Studio® that can be downloaded here. This download is free to use and is available for MAC and Windows computers.
If you open Silhouette Studio® and your Curio tools are grayed out, do not worry! All you have to do to activate these tools is plug your Curio in and turn it on. Once you turn your machine on, it will give you access to these new embossing and stippling tools.
You can see that Curio’s status is now ready to use and all the tools are accessible. If you unplug your Curio, these tools will still be accessible even if you restart your computer. As long as the last machine you plugged in was Curio, you will have access to the Curio tools.
Please not that once you plug in your CAMEO or Portrait, these tools will be grayed out. This is because the firmware on your CAMEO or Portrait is not compatible with these new functions. Trying to use Curio functions with your other Silhouette machines can possibly damage them. To prevent this, the tools are not accessible when you have another machine connected.
Now we can set up our page size and cutting mat. Silhouette Studio® makes this really user friendly by including automatic Curio page size settings.
One of the big questions is about our new platform and base technology. How do you know how many platforms to use?!
Let me help you out with that.
Navigate over to the “Cut Settings” window.
Once you choose the tool you wish to use, click on the tool and that will pull up the number of platforms you need! In this example, I am using the Fine Embossing Tool in the red tool cartridge. The automatic settings suggest using two 2 mm platforms and Curio’s 1 mm Embossing Mat. Two 2 mm platforms plus one 1 mm Embossing Mat equals 5 mm, which brings your media up to the correct height.
If you were using two tools, you would complete this process twice using the Tool 2 column.
