One of the features I was most excited about with the new Silhouette Curio was the embossing feature, which makes this garland easy peasy to create.

Here’s what you will need to recreate this 3D holly banner.

Start by opening the holly design up in Silhouette Studio and sizing the holly leaves to about 2.9 inches long and 1.7 inches wide. Before cutting, you will want to emboss down the middle of each holly leaf. Do this by drawing a line down the middle of all leaves, with the ‘draw a line’ tool. Then simply head over to the cut menu, choose your blade type, your material type and you’re good to go! I also set it to ‘double cut’ (or double emboss) to get a deeper line. You will also be using the Curio embossing mat.3D Holly Banner | like-the-cheese.com for Silhouette

Once all the leaves have been embossed down the middle, it’s time to cut them out. So the reasoning for the embossing is that you will be sewing down the middle of TWO leaves (layered on top of each other) and the embossed line makes sewing straight down the middle of each leaf, a breeze. But more importantly, the embossed line works like scoring, so when it comes to folding the leaves in half for that 3d effect, it’s a cinch.3D Holly Banner | like-the-cheese.com for Silhouette

Finish the garland by sewing two leaves on top of each other, followed by a berry. Once the garland has be sewn, fold each leaf in half for that 3d effect. Viola!

Brie Zacher

Hello, I'm Brie (like the cheese) and you can find me blogging over at like-the-cheese.com, a place where I can catalog my favorite projects and post anything I'm passionate about. My brain usually has way too many project tabs open at once, but I absolutely love doing anything that deals with DIY crafts, parties, yummy food, paper making, decor, design, and really good photography. I currently reside in Ogden, Utah and have been married for 5 years now to a good look'n hunk, whom I gave my number to at a bakery I used to work at (written on a PB&J sandwich). I also love Dr. Pepper and chocolate (insert flavor here) cupcakes.
