10 Things You Need To Know About The New Silhouette Handbook [Free Sample Included]

Silhouette has released its landmark publication, the Silhouette Handbook. We at Silhouette have worked hard to bring you a comprehensive guide for all-things Silhouette. Click here for more information.

Here are 10 things that you need to know about the newest (and most anticipated) addition to the Silhouette family of products.

1. The Silhouette Handbook is different from a manual

When you think manual, you probably think about an info booklet that comes in the box or that is available online for free. But the Silhouette Handbook isn’t a manual, it’s a compilation of all of the information currently available on the Silhouette Blog, our FAQ, and product packaging.

We’ve compiled all of the information from these sources in an Ebook that opens in Silhouette Studio®. You can open the Ebook in a panel in Silhouette Studio® and work with it directly by your side.

2. The Silhouette Handbook is the perfect companion for first-time Silhouette users

Did you get a Silhouette to help with your small business? Or did you get one because you have DIY projects on your Pinterest board that you are finally ready to try? Welcome to the Silhouette family!

The Silhouette Handbook includes a Quick Start Guide that gives you a crash course in all-things Silhouette. You’ll get an overview of your Silhouette and its accompanying software’s capabilities, dipping your toes into the vast world of Silhouette.

Get the Quick Start Guide now with a free sample of the Silhouette handbook.

3. The Silhouette Handbook is the perfect companion for experienced Silhouette users

Have you been a member of the Silhouette family for a while? If so, you’re probably familiar with a lot of the ins-and-outs of your Silhouette and accompanying products. So why would you need the Silhouette Handbook?

We’re glad you asked! Here at Silhouette we’re constantly updating and adding new products. The Silhouette Handbook compiles everything in one place in case you ever need a refresher. Staying on top of new releases, like Silhouette Studio® 4.0, is made easy with the Silhouette Handbook.

And while we’re talking about Silhouette Studio® 4.0 . . .

4. The Silhouette Handbook walks you through Silhouette Studio® 4.0

Silhouette has just completed a major overhaul of our industry-leading software. With a new interface, a new user experience, and new features, Silhouette Studio® is more powerful than ever.

The Silhouette Handbook walks you through every dropdown menu, button, and setting available in Silhouette Studio® 4.0. And if you ever forget how to do something, you can open the Silhouette Handbook right in the software and get step-by-step help.

There’s even a helpful list of software shortcuts at the back of the handbook. Easily switch between tools, copy and paste objects, create compound paths, and more.

5. The Silhouette Handbook teaches you all the lingo you need to know

But wait a minute, what’s up with the lingo you’ve been slinging around in this post and on the Silhouette Blog? Cut lines, kisscuts, compound paths, lined/unlined media? What does it all mean?

The Silhouette Handbook has you covered. There’s a handy glossary at the back of the handbook to help clarify any terms you’re not familiar with.

6. The Silhouette Handbook is both a catalog of Silhouette products and an ultimate tutorial guide

Do you have a question about how to use a specific Silhouette product? Every single product we sell on silhouetteamerica.com is accompanied by an in-depth tutorial. These tutorials will not only teach you how to get the best results, they’ll also save you money, because you’ll know how to get things right on the first try.

9. The Silhouette Handbook will be updated periodically—and those updates will be sent to you automatically

  4. This is perfect! Can’t wait to check it out. Everything in one place will make crafting much easier!

  5. Hi-I downloaded the sample and only 2 pages have information on them-is this correct? There is no quick start guide info either.
Can you check for me please?
    Thanks

  6. So exciting! This is going to help so many users move from good to great in their Silhouette skills, and save everyone time by having it all in one place. I think I’m most excited about the automatic updates as products and software change over time.

  7. Why can’t I print it? I have a small screen and need to have the pages printed out to look at while I’m working in the software?

  8. Disappointed that as an Australian, I can’t join the club, and so can’t get the Handbook! Will it be available as a single purchase for those of us OS?

  9. Help please! I tried to download the sample ebook but only received one page and the rest are blank-there is no quick guide
    .Thanks
    Karen

  10. Hi Lauren,
I’ve purchased the Handbook but have difficulty opening it, double clicking on the book didn’t open it. I received an email from the ‘support’ team who advised me to delete it, empty the Recycle Bin and download it again. I have done just that, the eBook is there in the Cloud, but on double clicking, the blue Handbook does not appear. I’ve closed the tab on three occasions and opened the software but it still doesn’t show up.
    Please help.
    Jennifer S

    1. Please follow up with Silhouette Support again. They have an additional fix if their first suggestion does not resolve the issue.

    2. I am having the same problem. Tried what support told me to do and it still doesn’t work. I just hangs and I have to kill the Silhouette Studio process. I am disappointed that I have purchased this and cannot open it.

      1. Hi Pat! I’m sorry to hear that you’re having troubles with Silhouette Studio®. If you email me at blog@silhouetteamerica.com, I can help you either solve the problem or put you in contact with one of our best reps to help out. I look forward to hearing from you! 🙂

    3. I had to uninstall the full program from my machine and reinstall for it to open for me.

      1. That is what I had to do, too.

  11. I am a club member. Where can I download or view the handbook. It is free with club membership.

    Robert

  12. I have received my silhouette handbook, it’s great except for one thing, it must be read on my computer screen, not great. It would be wonderful if I could read it on another device, for instance my Ipad.

  13. Thanks Kelly, I sent them an e-mail, am hoping lots of others make a request also.

  14. I like having a hard copy of the manual handy. If it is a PDF file, I should be able to print it.

    1. I totally agree! Come on Silhouette!

  15. I have the handbook on my computer, but would love to print it and make notes to keep beside computer. How do I print it

    1. Currently it is not printable, mainly because the purpose of having it on the cloud is so tutorials can be updated as software and supplies change. If printing is a feature you’d like to see, please send your feedback on the handbook to feedback_software@silhouetteamerica.com.

  16. Can I view the handbook on the website as well as in my program

  17. Hi Kelly. I got the book as a gift from silhouette. I installed the latest software from silhouette. The book shows as an icon under e-book but when I dubble click on the book there is a screen coming up that says it is not suported. What must I do to resolve the problem

    Thankx.
    Adri

    1. Did you resolve this issue? If so, would you mind sharing what you did to fix it? I’m having the same issue and didn’t get much info from customer support.

      1. Jennifer, have you tried the Live Chat available on silhouetteamerica.com? Live Chat is now available Mon-Fri 8 a.m.-5 p.m. MST. Sometimes that works better than an email. For this particular issue, there is a troubleshooting list you need to try to get your handbook back.

  18. Hi Kelly,
I opened up my new Cameo 3 last night and I use a Mac computer. My screen don’t look anything like the tutorials I am finding on You Tube or other websites. I was able to make my first cut but it’s very confusing and my first cut wasn’t deep enough to be able to peel it off of the sticky board. I’d like to understand and be able to use this product but it seems unless I join this club or hold on for customer service, (25 min so far) I might just be returning it which is too bad since I really want to learn how to use it. Why is there no instruction manual in the box or did I miss it on-line?

    1. Hi Tricia. Welcome to the Silhouette family! The software has recently gone through a major update which is why a lot of the tutorials out there haven’t caught up yet. There is a free user manual you can refer to, which should help quite a bit with the software, and chapter 9 addresses cutting and test cuts. In Silhouette Studio, go up to the Help menu at the top and click on “User’s Manual.” Silhouette America also has a YouTube channel that is currently adding new tutorials each week on the updated software, so that’s a good place to watch as well.
