Halloween Stencil Using Silhouette Chipboard

‘Tis the season to be spooky and creative! Hello my fellow crafters, Kathi here again, and today I’ll be showing you how to create chipboard stencils with your Silhouette CAMEO and incorporate it to make wooden cut outs.

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Silhouette CAMEO
  • Silhouette Chipboard
  • Black Paint
  • Foam Brush
  • 1 Thin Plywood
  • 1 Thick Plywood
  • 2 eye hooks
  • 1 leather cord or any kind of rope
  • Sand Paper

Tools You’ll Need:

  • Scroll Saw or Jig Saw
  • Nail Gun or Wood Glue

So I chose these adorable Bat Numbers from Sarah Hurley (Design ID #152812) cause I thought they would be perfect for Halloween decor and easy to cut on a thin piece of plywood.

Since the chipboard is 12×12, I set my design setting on my Silhouette Studio to 12×12 as well. Once you open the Bat Numbers file, you will have to ungroup the numbers by right clicking>Ungroup and delete all the numbers except the ‘3’ and ‘1’.

Fit the numbers into your design layout as big as you can while keeping it proportionate. Then send it to your Silhouette CAMEO to make the cuts. Make sure your chipboard is on the Silhouette Ma, inserted to your CAMEO correctly, and have your blade setting turned to number ‘5’.

Once your chipboard stencils are cut and pealed, grab your thin piece of plywood and trace your bat numbers on it.

I used my scroll saw to cut my wood (a jigsaw would also work). After you have made your cuts you can take a little bit of sand paper and sand the edges.

Take your black paint and foam brush and paint your numbers. Make sure your let them dry before moving on to the next step.

Finally, place your newly painted bat numbers onto a thick piece of plywood and nail them down (if you don’t have a nail gun you can also use wood glue).

You can use what ever you want to hang it onto your wall. I, myself, just screwed in a couple of eye hooks on the top corners and tied a leather cord.

I hope you enjoyed this project! What’s great about making stencils with the Silhouette Chipboard is that it’s easy to store and you can reuse it for next year. Happy Halloween, my fellow crafters.
