I’m so very excited to share this Alligator Birthday Jar with you! The birthday jar was inspired by a birthday invitation I received and I took one look at it and thought it would make an adorable keepsake if I was able to mimic the alligator from the invitation.
One quick glance into the Silhouette Design Store and I found an alligator that was almost identical.
All he needed was to be holding a balloon.
So I added a balloon. Easy peasey.
What’s super fun about gifting an oversized jar is you can use it as your wrapping paper. Fill the jar with small gifts, fill it with birthday cake popcorn (recipe is on my site if you’re interested) that can also be served at the party, or fill it with whatever your little heart desires. Long after the party is over and the guests have gone home, it’s the only wrapping paper that doesn’t get thrown away! Place it in the child’s bedroom to hold trinkets and it’s a small reminder of their special day. The gift that keeps on giving is what I like to say.
To get started, you’ll start by adding your alligator design then ungroup to cut the individual pieces. To ungroup, you’ll right click on the entire image and select ungroup. Now you can grab each piece that you’re not ready for and move it off of the cutting mat area.
Note: If you’re going to be resizing your alligator (I increased mine significantly), you’ll want to do that BEFORE you ungroup anything. Otherwise, your layered pieces won’t match up. Resize to the desired size first, then proceed with ungrouping.
Cut out all your layered pieces to size then get ready to weed the negative negative material and apply.
Be sure your glass jar surface is completely clean so that the vinyl adheres easily.
Layer, layer, layer and there you go!
A super cute birthday jar that matches your recipients’ invitation and birthday theme!
