Don’t you just love the free designs offered weekly in the Silhouette Design Store? Today I am sharing a quick tutorial on how to create a DIY Art Canvas using this weeks Come Fly With Me free design and adhesive vinyl.
- Come Fly with Me Design
- CAMEO or Portrait
- Stencil or Adhesive Vinyl
- Transfer Paper
- Acrylic paint-(light blue, dark blue, white, red)
To create this look you’ll prepare your canvas by painting the entire canvas with a light blue acrylic paint. Let it dry completely while you cut your design using stencil or adhesive vinyl.
When you have your design cut, you’ll weed out the excess vinyl before applying transfer paper to the stencil.
After the design is ready to go, you’ll use transfer paper to transfer the vinyl design to the canvas. Adhesive Vinyl may not adhere well to the canvas, so you may want to try the stencil vinyl. For the purpose of the tutorial, I used black adhesive vinyl for easy visibility.
Make sure that the vinyl is pressed down completely to the canvas to avoid excess paint bleeding. Now you’ll use a small firm brush to apply paint to the select areas of design. Be sure to use a small amount of paint on the brush to avoid bleeding through the vinyl.
Continue applying paint colors to select areas.
After the paint is dry, you can remove the vinyl.
Use a small clean brush to touch up any areas with paint that may have bled through to finish off the canvas.
