A friend of mine is hosting a nautical theme baby shower next month for her sister and we’ve been chatting about all the cute anchor decor that has been popping up lately as well as tossing around ideas for favors. When I spotted the striped muslin bags in the dollar section at a local craft store, I immediately purchased a set, ran home, ironed on an anchor, sent a text message, and just like that….her shower favors were decided.
Anytime someone asks me if I’m happy with my Silhouette CAMEO, I usually reference stories like the one above as to why I love my machine so much. In moments, you can personalize and design something unique for all of life’s special occasions. I loved these little heat transfer anchor favor bags so much that I went back and purchased some for myself to use for a nautical theme 4th of July!
They couldn’t be easier to make and all you need is some heat transfer material and your trusty Silhouette machine.
To get started, open the anchor design (find the link to the design at the bottom of this post) and resize to fit your project. Then, be sure to flip your image by right clicking and selecting ‘flip horizontally’. This step is especially important if you have any kind of text in your design.
Next, load the heat transfer material into your Silhouette machine, shiny side down. A mat isn’t required when cutting this type of material which is nice. Now you are all set to cut.
Once your design has been cut, use the hook tool to weed out, or remove, the heat transfer that isn’t part of the design. For the anchor, don’t forget the top hole!
Place your design onto the surface you would like it applied to, heat transfer material side down.
Place a cloth over the entire design and press with a hot iron. (see directions on heat transfer material packaging for iron settings) The cloth will serve as a buffer between the iron and the liner.
Carefully remove the clear liner and voila, you’ve turned your simple striped favor bags into cute, nautical inspired favor bags.
I attached a little bakers twine bow to each of mine, but that’s completely optional and entirely up to you. I think they’re cute with or without.
