Treasure Chest With 3D Gems | Analisa Murenin for Silhouette

If you’ve seen some of my kids crafts from the past year you’ll know that I’m a huge fan of pretend play. Today I’m sharing a treasure chest and 3D gems that would work great for playtime or even as party decor.

The treasure chest takes only minutes to come together since adhesive vinyl is easy to work with. If you don’t already have a roll of gold adhesive vinyl in your craft stash be sure to pick one up. I never grow tired of finding new ways to use it! Once your designs are cut out weed the excess vinyl and use transfer paper to position them on the chest. When placing a design over pieces that separate, simply adhere the vinyl when the pieces are together and then use a sharp craft knife to separate at the seam. The design will always match up perfectly this way.

These gorgeous 3D gems caught my eye the second I spotted them in the Silhouette Design Store. The design comes with three different shapes of gems. I resized them a few times for variety and cut them out of colored cardstock. The gems are designed well so they’re not at all complicated to put together. You’ll want to use quick drying glue because it does take a while to join all the seams.

  1. I want to be your kid! Glad you’re staying another year with us.

  2. You’re too sweet Robyn! I’m very much looking forward to another year here 🙂

  3. Cute, Analisa! I snatched these gems up when I saw them in the design store, too. My son saw your picture and asked if I’m going to make some for him. I guess so! 🙂

  4. Thanks Kelly! The gems are irresistible aren’t they?!

  5. I too snatched the gems from the store the moment I saw them. This might just be the last push I needed to put them to work for my little pirates here too. Thanks!

    1. They’re just too cute right?!

  6. I am a father of two (soon to be three) daughters who love all things pirates. Also, I am a volunteer at a camp for children with cancer and this year’s theme is pirates. So my question is…where did you get the treasure chests? Thanks!

    1. I found this particular chest in the decor section of Hobby Lobby. I’ve seen a few other styles where they keep the unfinished wood pieces there and at Michaels. I can imagine they’d be lots of fun to decorate with paint before adding the vinyl. Hope that helps Joshua!
