I loved pulling out all the green and gold in my paper stash to see what I could use for a fun shamrock arrangement. I could have used about 12 more shades of green, but I resisted. 😉 At this time of year I want to add flowers to everything, so that directed how I used this fun free design.
To make each flower or shamrock, I resized the shamrock to about 2” wide and the scalloped circle to about 2.5” wide. I cut a front and a back of each piece from a variety of green papers, being sure to mirror the second half so they would match exactly back-to-back.
I chose two different sizes for the circle centers to make the scalloped circles look like flowers. I could have cut these from any gold material or with double-sided adhesive and sprinkled gold glitter on top, but I decided to use the new gold glitter heat transfer. I wanted to add the “pinch me” phrase from the free design, and heat transfer was my best bet for cutting it that tiny. Yes, you can iron heat transfer onto paper! (Remember to mirror any designs with words before cutting.) Don’t you love that gold sparkle?!
I found a great little planter box to hold my flower and shamrock stems, then cut down a piece of dry floral foam to place inside.
I made my own stems with 20-guage green floral wire. You can just twist each straight piece of 18” wire around a smooth skinny object like a pencil, leaving a straight portion at either end of about an inch or so. The stem can be hot glued inside the two halves of a shamrock or flower. (I used regular adhesive or adhesive cardstock for the outer edges to stick together. Just add hot glue to the center where it will hold the wire.)
You can twist the wires in tight loops, then stretch each stem as necessary as you add it to the arrangement so they are different heights. I added some Spanish moss to hide the foam, which still allowed me to easily poke the wire ends into the foam.
This is a pretty fun piece of “spring” décor for March. (Pun intended.) Too bad you can’t see the motion of this arrangement as it moves. The handmade-spring stems make the whole arrangement bounce and jiggle when it’s touched. Don’t forget to grab the free design in the Silhouette design store!
