Merry Christmas Serving Platter

Merry Christmas Serving Platter

Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate it!  Today’s free design is obviously a timely one and I wanted to share a quick project idea since I’m sure you’re all pretty busy today.  This serving platter/charger looks like you took a lot of time etching it by hand, but can be whipped up in just minutes thanks to Silhouette Frosted Glass Vinyl.  Since the free design is a simpler one, it is a breeze to weed and transfer to any of your last-minute holiday projects.

I chose this simple holly frame to go with my modern “Merry Christmas” sentiment, but I removed the circular frame in the Studio software before cutting it and only adhered the negative shapes.  Since the edges of my plate tilt upward, it would have been difficult to transfer the entire frame to the plate all at once, so I cut the design into quarters and adhered them separately all the way around.

By now you probably know I love glass etching, but for very large projects or pieces I need to finish quickly, you can’t beat the convenience of the Frosted Glass Vinyl since it truly looks like real etching.  And if your charger or platter isn’t made of glass, any of the adhesive vinyl options would look just as beautiful (how about gold or silver?)!

I hope you are enjoying treats as yummy as these right now and are having a great holiday.

I enjoy sharing fun gift, home decor, and handmade card ideas over on my blog. My projects often reflect my other interests which include outdoorsy things like hiking, biking, and canoeing as well as a love of travel, small towns, and nature photography. I've been happily married for nearly 10 years to a man who is incredibly tolerant of my ever-growing craft supply stash...and we recently welcomed a new little boy into our lives as well.

  1. Love this plate! How did you make that Merry Christmas design? I can’t find it in the Silhouette store, nor can I figure out how to replicate it myself. I sure would like to know how to do that. Thank you so much!

    1. Hi Gina,

Sorry about that! The shape has been updated and will be free for a couple of days. 🙂

  2. Could you link to the “Merry Christmas” file? It just goes to “all designs” the Silhouette Design Store, and I can not find that file.

  3. Hi, I’m loving this project. I can’t seem to find the merry Christmas design in the store. Can you give me the number or more info on how to find it? Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi! Sorry about that, the design is live in the store now and available to download free for the next couple of days. You can find it by clicking on the design at the bottom of the post.

      Have a great day!

  4. What is the design # for the Merry Christmas you used? I can’t seem to find it in the store and the link to it, doesn’t go to the design. It is so pretty. I would love to make one. Thanks, Kate

    1. It’s #71768, according to the link. I’ve sent an email to support because it’s not showing in the store at all. 🙁

    2. Hopefully they fix it soon 😉

      1. fixed 🙂

  5. Thank you Kate! I would check back next week…the free shape will probably show up by then.

  6. Thank you, Kate! I’m hoping they’ll put that design back in the store!

  7. The shape is up but I thought it would be free since no one was able to download because it wasn’t available. I love the plate and would like to try it once I am comfortable using my cameo.

    1. Hi Denise,

It has been updated and will be free for a couple of days to give you a chance to download it 🙂 Hope you had a Merry Christmas!

      1. Thank you.

  8. I can’t find the frosted vinyl on the website.

    1. Hi Jamie! You’ll find it listed under the 9in matte adhesive vinyl category. It’s the very last one in the bunch.

      1. Thank you!! Can you hand wash items decorated with the frosted vinyl?

        1. I have hand-washed the platter a few times with no issues so far. And I’ve also used window cleaner over any mirrors or other home decor that have been “frosted”. I am pretty gentle, but it seems to hold up well!

  9. I came back today and the shape has a cost. Was it suppose to be available for free for a couple of days? I really like this idea. Thanks so much for sharing your talent.

    1. Thanks so much Vicky! I just clicked on the design link under my post and it comes up as free…maybe try again today!

      1. It worked. Thank you.
