Stenciled Wooden Toy Camera

This design is a little camera with a fun phrase and other little bits. I used it to create this fun stenciled wooden toy camera.

To create the camera:

  • Grab a scrap piece of wood & sand it down {I picked mine up at the hardware store from the lumber cutting area, literally a scrap, and free even!}
  • Open the shape in Silhouette studio, ungroup the shape and delete all of the pieces but the camera
  • In the scale window, resize the camera shape to fit on the wooden block by entering the specific dimensions

  • Cut the shape out of stencil vinyl, weed and apply the vinyl camera shape to the block of wood using the transfer tape
  • Paint over the stencil {or have the kids paint their own!}
  • Once the paint is dry, remove the stencil and voila, awesome toy camera!
  • Now, just add ribbon or fabric trim using thumb tacks or upholstery nails and you’re done!

  1. What a clever idea!! What kind of paint did you use? Did you put any sealer on after the paint dried? Thank you!

    1. Hi Jamie!

      I used a sample jar of paint I found at the hardware store because I liked the color, but I think any craft paint would work! I didn’t add sealer to this one, but I’m thinking about making some for my niece and nephews and I’ll probably add a wax sealer because they will be getting more use. 🙂 Hope that helps!

  2. Forget the kids! I need one! Love, love, love this!

  3. Looove this idea!!! I will have to try this soon.

  4. This is really cute Jeana. Great idea!

  5. Omigosh that is SO cute and clever, Jeana!! My kids would love this! Pinning to try ASAP!

  6. Love this, Jeana! I think the kids and I need to raid dad’s wood scraps pile. 🙂

  7. Oh my! What a darling idea!!

  8. This would even make some cute decor next to pictures or something. (I’m always looking for stuff that is not breakable so if my two year old snatches it- it’s not a problem.) I will have to find a scrap in my husband’s pile and go to town! Thanks for the idea, I would have never thought to make a toy like this with the silhouette. I will have to start thinking of more to do!

  9. I love this so much! What a great idea. I just might have to make some little ones I know this too. 🙂

  10. So Cute! Pinned!

  11. Woowwww!!!! Beautyfull idea! Thanks!!!!!!
