Wedding Cake Topper

DIY weddings and parties seem to be the popular thing to do these days, and why not? It’s a great way to express your style and creativity, and maybe even save some money in the process. The Silhouette is a great way to take your DIY ideas and turn them into reality!

Let’s start with the simple idea of a wedding cake topper…

I created this one using this week’s free shape. I cut the shape out of both the printable adhesive kraft paper and adhered it to the top of the same shape cut out of  Silhouette chipboard for stability. Then, I adhered them to a couple of wooden skewers, and voila, super easy topper! You can use the same concept with any shape you find in the online store, an image you’ve drawn to use throughout your event, or a combination of shapes from the store and fonts you have on your computer. Your imagination is really the only limit…

Want to customize it even further? Easily add a pop of color and more dimension with a few of the 3d flowers from the online store cut out of a colored cardstock that coordinates with your event. A  simple but effective addition!

I really like the welded look, but it also includes each of the words, flourish and ampersand as individual shapes so you can use them for other projects too!

  1. This would be so cute for a wedding card, or even cute wall art with the couple’s name underneath. I love it! Thanks for the shape. I have very few wedding shapes, so I usually just opt for hearts. 🙂

  2. Gorgeous use of the free shape, Jeana!!

  3. Beautiful idea – your cake looks fantastic, love the contrast of the bright flowers 🙂

  4. This is adorable. I have a question. Could you have adhered the kraft paper to the chipboard before cutting? I would have trouble positioning one shape on top of the other and wonder if I could adhere the paper to the board before cutting.

    1. Hi Suzy! You can, you will just need to play around with the cut settings until you get it just right 🙂

  5. Such a fun idea! I love this!

  6. Dear Silhouette!!! arrrrghhh! I FORGOT ABOUT THE EVERYDAY FREEBIE SHAPES YOU HAVE BEEN GIVING AWAY. It’s totally my bad. Do you have a list of those so that I can look them up and buy them? Just too much going on!

    Thank you.

    Arlene M. Pitts,

    1. Hi Arlene!

      If you look at the Silhouette portfolio in the online store you can view all of our shapes and the most recent ones are at the top. 🙂 {and some of them are still free!}
