Summer Quilt

Hi there! I’m curious, have you used your Silhouette to create fabric appliques? I have cut out small appliques for pillows and tshirts, but until recently I hadn’t done anything on a larger scale. Then, I designed this little summer quilt and found out just how easy it is to cut out larger appliques {using the tiling method} for quilting projects. I am still amazed at what the Silhouette does for my crafting!
With the thousands of shapes to choose from in the Silhouette online store, anything you can dream up, you can cut out and add to your quilt. Including all of the fonts that you have on your computer so you can even personalize them for gifting.

If you use your Silhouette for quilting, we’d love to see your handiwork! Feel free to share a link to your project in the comments below, upload photos to our flickr group, or email me at blog@silhouetteamerica.com.

Happy quilting!

Looking for the shapes used in today’s project? Check out the *featured bundle here.

*The shapes used in today’s project are now offered in the online store as a bundle. This means you get all of the shapes in the bundle at a discounted price for a week after the post. As you can see in the screen shot of the bundle below, all of the individual shapes included in the bundle are linked below the main bundle image. If you already have one or more of the shapes in your library, those will be marked with an ‘I own it’ and the bundle price will be crossed out with ‘your price’ below it. This price is for only the shapes you don’t already own.  Bundle pricing is a great way to build your library while saving money! :)

  1. I m teaching my granddaughter how to sew. How fun would it be for her to make her own simple quilt? Please tell me how you made the appliques with the Silhouette. I am new to Silhouette and did not know that this could be done.

    Thanks

I got to use my Cameo to make a wall hanging this week. It was so easy and a lot of fun.

I really like this quilt, especially the quilted clouds on it. Just wondering what the finished size is on it.

  5. I have used the Silhouette for quilting before. One quilt I scanned in the fabric and traced the bird on it so I could make the applique match the fabric I was using. I go to Sewing Expos and see all the various methods people have for doing applique and rhinestones and wonder why the Silhouette isn’t there being demonstrated. http://www.maggiemugginsdesigns.com/2011/05/quinns-quilt.html

  10. That’s What Che Said sent me. Thanks for the give away. I love the quilt. Was the fabric already done with the clouds or did you sew in that background design?

    1. jeana says:

You never cease to amaze me with your capabilities with the Silhouette Cameo – my beloved machine too. I soooo way under-use mine – I dont know why. I think sometimes I’m afraid of failure or of something not working out and/or my own high standards not being fulfilled by myself of all people. I certainly dont always take my own advice and just ‘play’…

I need to take a leaf out of your book and maybe also join in with some of the challenges.

This is such a beautiful quilt and perfect for either gender… I love it.

    Tfs
