DIY Birthday Cake Toppers

Do you have something to celebrate today? A birthday, a new baby, a child getting a good grade on a paper at school, or even something as simple as having a better day than yesterday?  I love how easy the Silhouette makes it to create something fun and unique to celebrate those things! {It is probably my absolute favorite thing about it!} How fun would it be for the kids to come home from school to a banner, and a cupcake with a personalized topper just because? It doesn’t even have to be anything complicated. This fun little animal birthday cake for example…

By cutting out just a few animal silhouettes and gluing them onto skewers you’ve got a unique alternative to the traditionally decorated cake.

So, how about a challenge? Use your Silhouette to create a little something to celebrate today! {if you feel like sharing, I’d love to see what you create!}

Have a great day!

  22. OH no! i wasn’t on yesterday and i missed the third word! sooooooooo bummed out. 🙁 i have all the other ones.

  23. I’d like to see how you did the word strip-just with your sketch pen? I am trying to get a better idea of how to use my sketch pens.

    1. Hi Torrie, this time I did the banner as a print and cut shape, but you could easily do it with your white sketch pen. First, cut out the banner shape, but don’t unload your mat. Then, replace your blade with your sketch pen. Type the phrase you want inside the banner in Silhouette studio. Then, be sure to turn off the cut line for the banner in the cut style window. Select sketch pen from the menu in the cut settings window and you are all set to sketch. Some of the sketch pens work better on darker colors than others, but the white works great! Also, when I am sketching with the lighter colors on dark paper I click the double cut option so it goes over the image twice.

      Hope that helps. 🙂

    2. I have been trying do some things similar to the banner via print and cut, but my machine does not like cutting out letters that small! I tried replacing the blade and changing the speed, but no luck. How do you get such tiny, crisp lines?

    3. Hi Sarah,

      The font I used here is a super skinny one, and at this size it’s not a great one for cutting. So, I printed the ‘happy birthday’ banner, and only cut the outside edge of the banner.

  24. Cute idea…so many cuts or print and cut could be used for so many occasions and cupcakes. Makes decorating a cake fun and easy! Great job.
