Pocket Page Layout & Printable Chalkboard Labels

Happy FREE Shape Tuesday! This week, there are TWO free shapes, yep, two! One of them is the printable chalkboard speech bubble labels and the other is a printable pattern you can use to fill your own shapes. {More on that in a second.} I used the shapes today to create a couple of Valentine themed pages.
To create hidden journaling, I slid my journaling card into the pocket, then stitched a piece of patterned paper on top of the pocket and added the speech bubble as a tab.
This next label is one I created using the printable pattern…

To create my own chalkboard label, I opened Silhouette studio and drew a small rectangle.

Then, I opened the fill pattern window. You will see my chalkboard pattern in the bottom right corner of this screen. Once you have downloaded the printable pattern it should automatically appear in this window.

Next, with the rectangle selected I clicked on the chalkboard pattern.

Then, using a flag shape and the type tool, I designed the ‘to be continued’ flag right in the middle of the chalkboard filled shape. {Creating a rectangle around the shapes I plan to design, rather than filling the actual shape, creates a bleed, or ensures that the color will go right to the very edge of my shape when I cut it out.} Then, I opened the registration marks window, turned them on by clicking the box next to ‘show reg marks’. To save paper, I also brought up the bottom registration mark using the up arrow next to ‘bottom’ under ‘reg marks margins’.

Once I printed the shape, I placed the paper on my mat as shown in Silhouette studio and loaded it into the CAMEO. To ensure that only the outer edge of the banner was cut, I opened the cut style window and deleted the chalkboard rectangle. Then, I selected all of the shapes by clicking and dragging my mouse across all of the shapes, {can also be done by clicking the select all shapes icon on the bottom left of your screen} and selected ‘cut edge’ from the menu.

Then, I opened the cut settings window, selected textured cardstock and clicked cut. Voila, your own chalkboard shapes.

ps. there are lots of fun free chalkboard fonts out there on the web that would be adorable when using this new chalkboard background… ask google, or pinterest, they’ll find them for ya!

Happy crafting friends.. I hope you enjoy your new shapes! :)

The photo pockets are made by Simple Stories and I picked mine up at Archivers.
