DIY Family Christmas Cards

Since Thanksgiving I’ve watched, via instagram, as my friends decorate their homes for Christmas, bake holiday treats and prepare their family Christmas cards to be sent out in the mail. I’m impressed. I just started listening to Christmas music yesterday, I apparently have some catching up to do.
If you are like me and have yet to get started on your holiday to do list, here is an idea to get the creative juices flowing today. Truly one of a kind Christmas cards with the help of your Silhouette.
To make this Christmas card for my friend’s family I started with a piece of 5 x 7 patterned paper and adhered their family photo to the top of that piece. Then, I overlapped the bottom of the photo with a 5″ small scalloped border and then stitched it with the sewing machine.
Then, using the print and cut feature I created a label with the sentiment to add to the bottom. {creating your own print and cut tutorial here}
Then, I added a couple of pop dots to the back of that label to give it some more dimension and adhered it to the bottom half of the card.
It has the look of a printed Christmas card with a handmade touch.
If you prefer the look of just a digital print, you can use some of the patterns in the online store, assemble the card right in Silhouette studio then print it out on your home printer and cut it out in one piece.

p.s. Did you have a chance to get in on the Silhouette “black Friday” deals that have been circulating the blogosphere? They are good until Friday at midnight! So, head over to your other favorite crafty blog and snag their code for great deals at Silhouetteamerica.com. Also… the shape sale is on until midnight Friday as well, a great time to stock up!
