Halloween Banner :: Double Sided Adhesive & Glitter

The other day I posted a picture to instagram of the fun little Halloween birdcage from Monday’s post with this caption “my Halloween decor theme this year is pretty simple… neutrals and glitter. #whoneedscolor” One of my cute friends commented and said “glitter is my favorite color!“.
Well said!
I love using glitter on my holiday projects, even if it means I will be wearing and finding
it in my craft room for days.
For someone who loves glitter, the double sided adhesive is perfect, especially for intricate shapes and letters like the “halloween” on my banner.
Here is a quick double sided adhesive & glitter how-to…

I wanted to keep the spacing and curve to my letters when I applied them to my project… here’s how I did it…

First, I placed the double sided adhesive sheet on my mat, yellow side down. Then I loaded the mat into the Silhouette and cut out the letters.
Once they were cut, I carefully removed the paper from the mat. It peels off of the mat in one piece, with all of the shapes still attached. Next, I removed the yellow backing from ONLY the letters, exposing one side of the adhesive.
Then, I placed it on my banner adhesive side down. Using the flat end of the pick me up tool I gently rubbed over each letter pressing it to the cardstock underneath.
Next, I removed the remainder of the adhesive sheet, leaving just the letters. Then I removed the white backing, exposing the adhesive.
Next, I poored glitter over the top of the letters. Then using a soft paint brush, brushed the glitter over the letters making sure they are completely covered.
Then, I tapped off the excess glitter. Because there is no drying time, it was ready to be attached to the rest of my project. Yay for no drying time!
**Quick tip before I go… to get the pretty champaign colored glitter I used here , mix equal parts of Silhouette gold and silver glitter. **
Check out that detail… I’m in LOVE!
The rest of the banner is kind of cute too…

    1. jeana says:

Hi Therese, the font used for happy is called “learning curve” and the Halloween font is “Hoedown”

How do you make those fanned flower things behind the decorations? I bought a shape from the store to make them, but they keep bunching up. For the life of me I cannot get them to stay flat once I fold and glue them together. Any tips would be appreciated…. maybe even a tutorial?

    1. jeana says:

Once I have folded and adhered the ends together I put a glob of glue on the small circle that comes with the shape and hold the formed rosette down on top of it until it’s tacky enough to hold it in place while I repeat the same process with the larger circle and glue it to the top of the rosette. I hope this makes sense? Let me know if it works :)

Thanks for the great tip on making the campaign colored glitter… I never thought of mixing colors to get a totally new color! Beautiful banner!

  12. This is adorable. Do you have to pay for fonts when you download them? I’ve found tons of free fonts on pinterest, but don’t know how to get them on my computer to use for the silhoutte. Did you buy the hoe down font?

    1. jeana says:

Thanks! :) If you do a google search for Hoedown font you can find the website to download it for free.
