Back To School :: Fabric Bookmarks

It's back to school time! Here is a fun fabric bookmark you can make for someone just starting to read, or an old pro soon to be drowning in text books. {moi!}

To make the bookmark start by ironing the sewable fabric interfacing to the back of your fabrics.

Then, open the banner shape in Silhouette Studio and in the scale window resize the shape to 1.75" w x 6.5" h.

Next, use the knife tool to slice the top of the shape just below the point creating a straight edge and delete the top shape.

Then, with the new shape selected open the replicate window and click mirror right.

Once the shape is mirrored, nudge them apart slightly.

Remove the paper backing from your fabric/interfacing and place interfacing side down on your mat and replace your blade with the fabric blade if you have one. {it's always best to keep a separate blade for cutting fabric}

Now, in the cut settings window select your fabric type, load your mat in the Silhouette and click cut.

Then, open your applique shape and resize using the bookmark shape as your guide. Delete the bookmark shape and repeat the previous steps to cut the applique.

Once all of the shapes are cut out you can add a bit more substance to the bookmark by ironing the top piece onto a piece of flannel, then iron on the applique.

Next, cut off the excess flannel around the shape. Then, stitch around the applique. Finally, iron the other bookmark piece to the back and stitch around the edges.

Voila... fun fabric bookmark!

Happy sewing!
