Mother’s Day gift idea

About 10 years ago when I was in school and living on a limited budget I had to be creative/thrifty when it came to giving gifts. One Mother’s Day gift in particular stands out in my mind. I had an old frame, and inside the frame I wrote on little rectangle pieces of paper the things I loved about my mom. It wasn’t pretty by any stretch of the imagination, but to this day that little frame hangs on the wall in the entry way to my mom’s home. I think there is something to be said about hand made gifts… even the ones only a mother could love. :) Today’s project is a simple one you can recreate at home… for a gift, or even your own home decor.

First step, find an old frame at a local thrift store and give it a quick once over with some spray paint. Then, using the fonts you already have on your computer, design the layout of your quote in Silhouette Studio. While the letters are being cut , place a piece of scrapbook paper or fabric in the frame. Then, adhere the quote using a glue pen or your favorite adhesive.
This project was made with my mom in mind, but how fun would it be with the name of a bride and groom at the guestbook table on their special day, or at a luncheon with the menu listed for your guests. So many possibilities… :)

What a lovey story, Jeana. And how true that our mothers treasure the things that we have put little of ourselves, and all our love, into something we made for them. When my lovely mom passed away, I found things I had made for her when I was just five years old…she died when I was in my fifties…Bless her!

Probably should let your readers know the quote is by Abraham Lincoln. Aloha.
