There's a shape for that!

One morning last week I got half way to work and realized I had forgotten my phone. Have you ever done that? The debate started in my head... should I go all the way home and get it, or just try to make it through the day without it? After all, there was a time I didn't have one, right? I didn't end up going home to get it, and I learned something that day. I depend on that thing... A LOT!  Who knew!  It's just that it comes in so handy sometimes.  Like the other day when I was out picking up project supplies... I found a clock. It that had a pretty great frame, but I wasn't in love with the design on the face of it, at all.  It had potential to be something I could love though. My first thought was "I bet there's a shape for that!"  So, I took out my phone, went to the online store in my browser and did a quick search for a clock shape.  I found one that I liked, purchased it, and it was ready for me download when I got back to my computer. Super convenient! So you see, having my phone at.all.times is a good thing. *smile* I bought the clock and one shape, 2 pieces of paper and 2 cuts later, here is the uber quick transformation.

How it was done...
After taking the clock apart, I measured the face which was an 8" circle. Then I loaded the shape in my Silhouette Studio, adjusted the size in the scale window and cut it out.  Perfect fit!

Next, I ungrouped the image by clicking on the ungroup icon in the bottom left corner so that I could use some of the shapes individually.

To create the grey base that shows through the numbers, I opened my cut style window and selected the two circles. Then, I clicked "cut" on the right hand side of my screen.  This tells the CAMEO to only cut those two shapes.  Voila, cut # 2 and it's ready for assembly.

It's fun to see the potential in things like this clock, clothes, frames or furniture and be able to quickly find a shape or two that will make all the difference.

Have a happy Monday everyone!

Oh, a quick side note...I'm having a blast seeing the fun artwork you are submitting for the challenge/giveaway! It feels kind of like Christmas... Keep them coming! :)

  2. One of the things I love about my Cameo and my old silhouette was that you can use your grid to size everything perfectly and then there is no surprise when it cuts Yeah!

  3. I'm really leaning toward getting a Silhouette, but I do have a question. Is the SD and the Cameo the same machine? I'm having a hard time figuring this out. I don't really see a lot of information out there other than rave reviews. I'd love if someone could clear this up for me. Thanks so much! And I do love everything I see here on the blog.

    1. Sorry, will try again. :) I have the SD which is a 9 inch cutter. The Cameo is the new cutter and can cut the 12 inch paper so there is no cutting down. I love my SD but if was buying now, would buy the Cameo only because it is bigger.

    2. I, too, fell in the with the shape of this clock when I saw it at Hobby Lobby. I didn't buy it because I didn't like the face. I never thought I could use my Silhouette to make a new one! This is going on my shopping list, now. Thanks!

    3. I don't have a Hobby Lobby but I would so pay someone to buy that clock and ship it to me (or I could give you a discount on one of my headboards - http://orangesugar.etsy.com/). If you're interested email me at c.files81 at gmail dot com.

  6. If you didn't cut the numbers, did you print the grey numbers, etc?

    1. Hi! The numbers are part of clock shape as a whole, so when I made the first cut out of the yellow polka dot paper, it cut out the entire clock shape including the numbers. The grey that is showing through the numbers is the base piece that I cut out of grey cardstock and adhered to the back of the yellow paper. Hope this helps :)

      Have a great day!
