Card Sketch

How about a card sketch to start your Thursday :)! It being close to Valentine's Day and all, I went with hearts, but for more of an every day card, wouldn't it be groovy with flowers or stars instead?

Creating a sketch in a few easy steps:

Load, size and arrange all of your shapes. You will find that doing this to scale is helpful once you decide to cut them.

Next, change the color of each shape so that it stands out from the one above, next to or beneath it. This is done by selecting the shape and your shade of black/grey/white from the Fill Color window. {For me, color coding isn't an exact science. I don't have an order that I color things in with one exception. Those shapes that are going to be cut from the same paper will get the same fill color.} I also like to change the line color in the Line Color window to none.

Easy peasy right? :)

  4. I also use the color fill to help me decide on a color scheme. Even though the paper I use may not be an exact match to the fill, I can still use it as a starting place for deciding the color combos I like best. Once I have an idea of what I think will work, I go get the actual paper and lay the colors out together. I might tweak what's on the screen a little more to be sure of what I want, then cut. It helps me go through possibilities without doing a lot of cutting. I still might change my mind later, but I like playing around in the software, first. -Michelle

  5. Sorry, I'm a little bit confused. How is the a sketch? It looks just like a cut card.

  7. Hello anonymous... That is the fabulous thing about the silhouette... You do your sketch (design) on your computer screen first and then you cut it out. In this instance, what is meant by sketching is the actual designing versus the great layout of swirly frames that Jeana actually sketched. Hope this clears up your confusion...

  8. I love your card! Can you please provide links to the heart and scalloped designs you used? Or did you create them yourself? I searched the online store and didn't see them. Thanks!

  10. I also use my Silhouette as a layout tool for creating other cards, e.g. if there's a card challenge with a sketch containing several elements/layers. Making my own sketch in the software helps me to determine the right size for each of the elements/layers on my physical card, based on the dimensions of my base card.
