Of course..more gifts

November 30, 2011

Here I go again with my love of gifts!  I absolutely adore these darling little Christmas goodie boxes from pebbles in my pocket!  I also have really been into plums and magentas and black this Christmas season.  I know its completely off the beaten path when it comes to tradition, but there is something so refreshing about this chic little combination.

How will you dress these little boxes up?

Free shape of the week!

November 29, 2011

...packages tied up with strings...these are a few of my favorite things.  One of my favorite things truly is presentation.  You can ask anyone who knows me well.  If it doesn't have a purpose or a gorgeous way to be packaged, I will find a way.   I love giving gifts wrapped perfectly and I cant help but want to save gorgeous wrapping that has been given.

I have a girlfriend who has the most amazing eye for presentation, we, there for a while would try to find things to dress up and love, and really just enjoy their beauty.  So, I thought of her when this shape was created!  So for all you fellow packaging lovers, here you go! *wink*

Tutorials: Print and Cut

November 28, 2011

I created a card a while back using a print and cut so I thought I would show you how it works now using the new CAMEO.  In the upper right hand corner of your toolbar you will see the icon to change your page settings.  Make sure you click the letter option.

Then you can select the image you are wanting to print and cut.  Resize it and place it where you would like it to be cut on your paper.

Again in the upper right toolbar you will see the registration marks icon.  Here you can use the toggles to control where the registration marks are placed on your paper.  This allows you to reduce paper waste.

Once that is all setup you can click on your cut settings and select the media type you will be cutting.  Then click on send to Silhouette.

Now that you have selected the registration marks, it will lead you to the printing prompts.

Once you have printed your image, make sure you place it on your cutting mat as seen in your software.

After your image has been printed your screen prompts will also change.  You will see the link to "detect automatically".  This will tell the machine that it needs to check for the registration marks.

Your machine will then start to scan for the registration marks.

When the registration marks have been found your screen prompts will let you know that it was successful and you can now cut the image out.

The final result will be of course gorgeous and you will have a beautiful image to display on your projects.  I hope you have found this helpful for all your Holiday creations!

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 22, 2011

If any of you have had a son or even know a boy for that matter...you know that they are turkeys!  At least that is what I call them where I am from.  Always teasing, always a class smart-alec, and always trying to get to you.  LOL.  So like I said turkeys, I was thinking about that as a project and came up with this cute little onesie idea. I created it using a few colors of heat transfer and 2 darling shapes.  A perfect outfit for a little boy on Thanksgiving day!

Tutorials: Etching Glass

November 21, 2011

A holiday craft favorite is the etching cream.  It is super easy to use and delivers beautiful results.  I have etched a simple glass baking dish with my last name.  You can use this to make sure your holiday dishes are returned to you after the party or as a giveaway dish for your favorite people.  Maybe a little fudge would be fun...and after its all eaten a gorgeous dish for the to keep.

Step one is to make sure your media is set to letter size.  This way we can use the stencil vinyl which is a 9" media type.

Now all you do is type the name you would like to etch and the font style.  I chose the font "Young Blood"  and have made the height to be approx 1"

Once that is completed I will flip my name and mirror it.  I will be putting it on the bottom of the dish  so that it is not on the interior of the dish where food could hurt the design.

Now its time to cut.  Once it is cut you will weed the stencil vinyl, place and adhere the transfer paper, peel away vinyl /transfer paper from the backing and place on your dish.

Once it is placed, adhere the vinyl using your scraper again.

Pour the etching cream onto your dish and let it etch for 15 minutes.  After the 15 minutes scrape the etching cream off and replace in the bottle for reuse on another project. Then rinse the excess off and wipe dry.

Remove the stencil vinyl from your dish and admire your gorgeous work...and get to making that fudge! ;)

Gifts & Giveaways

November 18, 2011

I'm not sure if you all are thinking about gifts you have to prepare for the holidays but I am thinking about everything that has to get done from now until then.  SO here is a little inspiration for you to get some creative juices flowing.

I took a basic tee and and layered on fabric ink to create a super cool shirt!  Definitely something you would find in a store...except how cool is it that it was custom!  Did you know that our fabric inks are mixable?!  Which means your color possibilities are endless.

When layering fabric ink colors you always want to start with the lightest colors first.  So in the case of the flourish &text on this owl shirt, I started with a base of yellow.  Then I added a tiny amount of the green as well as some white to create the color you see.  You can add small amounts by using a toothpick.  Squeeze out the color onto your palette and then using the toothpick, pick up small amount and mix together.  It is always easier to add dark colors to light, it takes much longer and more product to create a lighter color when starting with a dark base.  So just as a reiteration I would not use the green and add yellow to it, yellow is a lighter base and will mix to a new color quicker using a more efficient amount of ink.

There is a great color mixing chart in the fabric ink starter kit, something that is a must have if you want to start creating your own custom pieces.

Come away with me...

November 17, 2011

Mmmm...you dont mind if I take a little trip inside my mind right?  I know the snow is coming and all I can think about is stealing away to a cozy cabin with a roaring fireplace and the softest blanket with my sweetie all toasty warm.  I want to go snowmobiling until I think my fingers are frozen solid and then warm up in my little dream space.

As a kid my extended family would take sleds, huge tubes & snowmobiles out to the middle of the forest in this amazing spot just north of the Blue Ridge Reservoir.  The trees were cleared and the snow would be as deep as my thigh in some places...of course I was young so that may not have been super deep, but to me it was amazing.  I'm sure the parents remember tears and whining in those moments but for my cousins and I we remember laughter and more fun than we could imagine...and now beautiful memories.

So, yep...its time to get away.

I created this card by making the cute little sled boy as a print and cut.  I used 3 patterns from the store.  One for his shirt sleeves, one for his shirt and one for his scarf.  Then I printed it and cut out the edge of the shape.  I used sketch pens to sketch the snowflakes in the background and for the text on my little snow swirl.  And of course added a little rhinestone bling to make the snowflakes *POP*

Harvest Home

November 16, 2011

There are some super darling shapes that have been added to the store,  I mean super cute.  I used one of them to create a little signage for our harvest decor.  It fits so cute with the paper pumpkins from last month and a little sprinkling of other goodies added to the mix.  Here is an individual shot of the project all by itself.

I used a canvas backing and cut out cotton fabrics with the clean cut fabric interfacing.  Then I ironed them one on top of the other to create the shape you see.  For one last little detail I used the stencil vinyl and fabric ink to add the word "harvest".  This is just a sweet little detail for your autumn decor.

Free shape of the week

November 15, 2011

Turkey day is almost here and that of course means pies.  I love pie, I think dutch apple might be my favorite, but you can not go wrong with a good pumpkin pie at thanksgiving.  The shape this week will be a sure giggle in your favorite pies for the up coming holidays.  I hope you all have a super happy Tuesday!  See you again tomorrow!

Tutorials: Advent Calendar

November 14, 2011

Since all of you have seen the new advent calendars that we have come out with...for a limited time I might add.  I thought you might like to see how simple it is to get started on your calendar.

Of course first things first, pull it out of the box and fin your download card that comes with it.

Once you have the card, scratch off the back silver strip to reveal your promo code.  Now you can go through the steps on the back of your card.  Open the onlin store, login to your account or create one if you dont have one.  Then click the redeem promo code link which will then take you to the spot you enter your code into.  Once you are there click the Apply Card link.

You will see all the calendar shapes.  It comes with drawers, boxes and backs to cut out and decorate

Your Shapes will download into your library, if not make sure to recover the order under your account history.  Locate the box you want to start with, I like to start with the first box.  For this advent calendar I am going to use box 21 for my first box since it is the same shape and size, I just like the flat top.

Double click on it and it will automatically appear on your artboard screen.

So all you need to do from here Is load your paper onto your mat and start cutting.  Ok, I am using the cameo and I have placed to different colors on to my mat so I can cut out more, but you can use your Silhouette.  We created them to be able to be cut out on both machines.

All the files make it so easy to fold and place together, as you can see there are perforations for each fold.  The hardest part about these calendars is deciding which colors of paper and embellies you want to use.  Oooh there are so many choices!

Everyone here at the office has talked non-stop about these babies and all the fun they are.  You have to get one!

Oooh, ps.  I almost forgot to say...I spray painted my white box black.  It was super easy.  I just laid it on its back sprayed the top and sides then I set it up and sprayed inside, rotating each side once dry.  Have fun!
