Tutorials: Tattoo Paper in place of face paint.

October 31, 2011

I have pinned a few of our Halloween face paint ideas onto our Halloween Pinterest board, so I thought I would show you how we did it.

If you would like to see a detailed tutorial on how to import and cut your temporary tattoo images click here for the link...but here is a quick rundown.

You start by importing your shape into the software.  Because your temporary tattoos are print and cuts you will need to add the registration marks.  The next step is to mirror it as well, that way it transfers to your face the right direction.

Now all you do is print the images with the registration marks on to your white tattoo paper.  Make sure it prints on the glossier side of the white sheet.

Once that is printed you will remove the green liner from the adhesive sheet and place it on top of the printed sheet.  Using a scraper firmly smooth and adhere the adhesive sheet to the printed sheet.

Now you are ready to place on to your mat and cut your tattoos out.

Once you are done you will peel away the clear liner.  The adhesive should now be on top of the printed images.

Stick on to the area you would like.

Take a damp cloth and press to wet the paper.  Once the paper is wet you can remove the paper to reveal the "face paint" tattoo.

You can also layer tattoos by starting with your base first peeling away the paper, adding another tattoo image wetting and peeling away.  Its super simple and makes the messy face paint option obsolite.  Perfect for all day wear.

This little lion was quite happy with the outcome! ;)

Check out the store for lots of fun face paint tattoo shapes, but you can use lots of different "regular" cut shapes by using the fill options to create other images for your costumes.  Have fun!  Happy Halloween!

Fall Contest WINNER!!!

October 28, 2011

 WINNER!!!
Contest is closed

Thank you so much to all the entries that were submitted to this contest we had soooo many great projects choosing only one is so hard.  I enjoyed seeing what fall meant to you and all the excitement you put into your creations.  We chose this project because of its composition and attention to detail.  It is a simple rosette wreath but the patterns along with the antique creams and blacks are so appealing.  The glitzy rhinestone/jeweled details are just gorgeous and so well placed!  Mmmmm! Scrumptious!

Congrats Angela you are the winner of the super fun Fabric Ink Starter!  Thank you for sharing this with us!  We posted this bad boy on pinterest too!  YOU'RE FAMOUS! ;)  Happy Friday everyone..oh and keep sigining up to win the CAMEO!

Fan Feature: Aged potion bottles

October 27, 2011

These were posted on facebook a while back and I absolutely adore them.  I would love to have a case of these sitting in an old wooden coke bottle case!  Thanks so much to Joy for sharing this idea with us.  She printed out these labels using vellum and then mod podged them on to the bottle and of course grunged them up with a little glimmer mist and ink.

Take a look at her blog for further instructions on how you can recreate this look!

Magnet Pumpkin

October 26, 2011

If you are a mother of young children or have the opportunity to be around them, you know that keeping their curious minds busy is a must.  How about keeping them busy with magnets.  I know mine love a good magnet book.  I took a circular metal tin and spray painted it orange.  Then I used the print and cut method to cut out a bunch of jack-o-lantern face shapes.  They can rearrange the faces until their little hearts content.  Then you can store the magnets inside the tin.  So fun!

Tutorials: Loading 9" wide media into the CAMEO

October 24, 2011

Now that you are starting to receive your CAMEO's I thought it might be a good idea to explain how you can easily cut your 9"media with the CAMEO.

First I will create my design in the Silhouette Studio software and then we will prep to cut out the 9" frosted  vinyl.

You will want to change your page setting to a letter size from the default 12" setting.

After that is done you will need to select your cut setting, I selected the vinyl cut setting since I am cutting the frosted vinyl.

Now you will need to slide the white rollers to the correct notch.

You do this by releasing the blue lever on the left to the downward position.

Twist the right white roller and slide to the 9"notch.  These are not labeled however it is the 2nd to the left notch.

Now I am ready to load the vinyl.  Change the setting on the LCD screen to the load media option.
Select send to Silhouette in the Software and then cut it out!

Of course you know the drill with the vinyl.  Weed, transfer and reveal!  Poof!

Masquerade anyone?

October 20, 2011

Dressing up is a Halloween must do...I have always thought it would be cool to have a masquerade...or at least a party where you had to wear a mask.  Ames in customer support is preparing for one and he brought in his mask today to show me.  I love it and think he did a great job!  He cut out some fabric using the the clean cut fabric interfacing and created this super cool mask.  I had to share it...your rock Mr!

Free download of the week!

October 18, 2011

I haven't given a free sketch shape in a while so I whipped up a little spider web for you to use as an accent or a background.  I used it as a background today in this fun spider web card.  I love the haunted house Halloween style; old cob-webbed rococo frames and gilded candelabras, so I took a little cue from that and ran with this card. I also love the black, white and purple combination used around Halloween time, so I threw that in there too! ;)  Happy haunting everyone!

Tutorials: Halloween Sign

October 17, 2011

Ok so I thought I would switch things up a bit and do a tutorial on a project instead of a feature.  I have used my cameo to make this project but you can still use your Silhouette to create this sign.

I started with the shape: monster_one_eyed_C20091116132849_19210 and resized it to approx 8.5" wide.  For those of you using the Silhouette you will just have to size it down slightly.  I then ungrouped the shape and layered the monster on top of itself.  I did this so that I could use the slice tool and take off the legs of the monster.

I then imported the shapes: knock_if_you_dare_C01145_19547  & gears_border_C00420_20387 ( I only resized the gear border to the length of 12".  Now Im all ready to cut out all the pieces.

Here you can see I am using 7 different coordinating papers.  I used a patterned paper for the body of the monster and for the background of my sign.

(do you see how loved my mat is?  I LOVE our new mats!!!)

From here its the easy part.  glue your pieces together and then place on your background paper as shown below.  I added some glitter and of course my favorite...tulle.  Whats Halloween without a little tulle...hahaha! This is sure to be a hit on my front door for all those trick -or- treat-ers!

You've been Boo-ed!

October 14, 2011

So my kids are trying to decide what they want to be for Halloween.  We have gone from Princesses to ponies and parrots then cheerleaders and back to animals.  It has to be so magical for them.  Deciding what amazing thing they could be for just a day.  I love listening to their little voices talk back and forth about what they would look like and the way they would parade around...I've even hear little clips of how they might sound *giggle*  It is so fun!  Along with that they are talking about school party's that are around the corner.  I thought this was such a great sized box to fill with little treats.  Its perfect to give as party favors as they sport their Halloween digs.

Thankful

October 13, 2011

Along with fall festivities comes Thanksgiving and I for one am so thankful for so many things.  I am a firm believer of giving thanks and showing gratitude to those who have given you so much or to those around you.  Compliments were meant to share and thanks was meant to be given.  So here is a little tag you can attach to a gift you will share with someone who means so much!  Thank you to all of you who have been so supportive to Silhouette and who continue to share your enthusiasm with us!  All my love!

Ps.  LLLLOOOOVE this owl paper from the Paper Studio!

Cameo is shipping!

October 12, 2011

I have been using my Cameo for about a week now and I thought the day that it was taken away after testing was the hardest ever.  That extra 3" really does change the way you create.  I'm in love with her and I want to shout it at the top of the world.  Ok so that may be a bit dramatic but that is the way I feel.  She is a glorious thing to have!

Here is a layout I created using the Cameo.  I love the "true" 12" cutting area.  Take a look!

Be on the look out for the Cameo in your local stores!

Tutorial: Fabric Baby Shoes

October 10, 2011

For this project you will be using 2 fabrics to create the baby shoes.  Choose your first fabric and iron the interfacing with the paper side up. (the glue web should be placed on the “wrong/backside” of the fabric).

I have trimmed the fabrics down to approx 6”x12” for this shoe size.

Iron each section for 3 seconds until interfacing is applied to the fabric.   Once this is done move to the next fabric and repeat the same steps.

Now that the interfacing is applied peel away the paper liner to reveal the newly interfaced fabric.

Then place your fabric onto your cutting mat interfacing side down.

Ok Now you are ready to cut.

I arranged the pattern according to the image below in order to minimize waste.

Click the send to Silhouette button, select your fabric cut settings and cut out your shoe pattern.

Now that your shapes are all cut out you are ready to put them together.

Pin both patterned arches to each other face sides together as shown in the image to the right.  This will form the top part of the shoe.

Then sew the inside of the arches together.

Open the arches and bring face sides together at the ends of the arches and sew together.

The next step is to turn the fabric face side out.  Then iron the arches together.  This will form the top part of the shoe.  The interfacing that you used will help the two fabrics to stay together.

You will also want to iron the soles of the baby shoes together.  Place the interfacing sides of the soles together and iron for a few seconds.

Pin the sole of the shoe to the top piece inside out and sew around the edge.  Once that is completed turn the shoes right-side out.

You will also want to stitch the strap and hook and loop tape on at this point if you have not already done so.

Aren't these the cutest little shoes EVER!  *screech* ...now I just need a little one to put these on. ;)  I will have a pdf posted on the website soon as well as more sizes in the online store.
