I really love the project for this week's free shape. I know we have seen dress forms around for a little while but I really love them still. I think this shape is a perfect valentine message.
I used the small heart that is cut from the bodice, as a little accent on the message of the card. This is a perfect little gift for anyone who has your heart!
Tutorial: Create print & cuts from any shape
January 24, 2011
The new Mr. Men/Little Miss line has been a great realease! Many of you have asked how you might be able to make them a print and cut. So, todays tutorial will teach you how. Not only for these shapes but for any shape you have from the store. Check, check it!
Start by importing your shape.
Here I ungroup it so that I can find the exact size of the pieces. I want them to be about 2.5"
You will then want to make sure you select everything to resize since you are no longer grouped together
Now that I have the right size I am going to start filling the shape. Using the top right options toolbar we can change the color of our shapes. Select a shape and then make sure you change the color of the fill as well as change the red outline to the color you want, in my case I do not want to see a line.
Ok now you can see that I want to fill in his features, because there are a few pieces I want to color the same, I am going to either croup them or make them a compound path. This little guy has eyes that I want to have the black background color and while I can fill those to be black too it is just a s easy to turn it into a compound path allowing the "holes" to exist. You can do this be going to object on your menu bar and with the shapes select click make compound path.
Now you are ready to fill!
Alright, so the pieces are all colored what I would like to see them as so now I will arrange them on top of each other and group it together so it is one shape.
I am going to be creating a magnet out of this so that each of my children will have a place to stick their artwork on the fridge. My next step will be to add the name and then create an offset to cut out around the magnet. Take a look at my steps below.
Grab your text tool and type out name.
Now you are ready to offset. The Silhoeutte Studio software remembers your last fill and line actions so you will need to change them once you have the size offset you want. You can do this by selecting the offset outline and changing the fill to the empty fill and I always change the line to red since it is the standard cut line color.
I also need to add an offset around the name. I am opting to use the round rectangle tool instead of the offset, I just want an even line.
Now you are ready to weld your 2 "offset" outlines together to make one cut line.
Ok, before you can print this to cut, you need to go to the cutline options. Because each part of this shape was an individual piece the lines will be read as individual cuts so we need to select the entire shape and click on cut outline. This will tell the Silhouette to cut only the outside of the shape.
Now you are ready to add your registration marks and start printing.
Once you have your project printed, send it to the silhouette and click on detect registration marks and then after a successful detection you can click on cut. Your project is ready to use.
I hope this helps you with other projects you have been wanting to attempt. Have a super great start to your week!

What Inspires you?
January 21, 2011
What inspires you? I am sure we can all answer this one quickly. As for me, I have quite a few things. I also feel like there are a few people in my life who are my muses. I am always lifted inspired and feel so much more creative when I am around them.
Today's layout is inspired by them. The absolutely gorgeous human being in this photo is one of my besties not only is her beauty inspiring but her story of strength, courage and perseverance is as well. A few weeks before Christmas, a year ago, her world was changed forever. She was left to raise three children under the age of 4 after a tragic accident took their father/husband. With absolute grace she has courageously stood in the face of tragedy and teaches her children what love, patience and the beauty of life truly means. I am so grateful for those who have allowed me to be a part of their seasons and I have truly been inspired by the season I spent with her.
When meaning is placed behind our projects, transformation occurs within us. Our designs become more beautiful. The service of what/who we create for, takes new life. I hope you have a beautiful weekend with those you love!

A little "Miss" sunshine in life
January 20, 2011
We have been so excited to start with our new licensed shapes and are extatic that they are from the Mr. Men/Little Miss line. Yesterday I showed you a few shirts using the heat transfer. While the majority of us see them on t-shirts and other fun apparel, I wanted to show you a project I made using them in paper crafting.
One of the artists here made Little Miss Giggles when we first recieved them and I think she and I sat and giggled about it for about 15 minutes. It is always so fun to bring a little nostalgia into life. Reminds you that you can take a break and remember some of the sweeter things in life.
So I am sending a little miss sunshine your way. Have a great rest of your Thursday tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!!

Monday Tutorial: Basic Card
January 17, 2011
I thought instead of teaching you a new feature that it would be great to practice basic skills and get you more comfortable with your Silhouette. In today's tutorial I will teach you how to make a basic card using shapes from the store as well as a few simple features.
You will need to start with your document area in the portrait position. I will be making a card the is 3.5x5 with a wide fold format. Because of this our background sheet of paper will need to be a 12x12 cut in half. This way you can get your full fold of 3.5 x 10. Adjust the size of your document to be a length of 12".
So lets start with that. Click on your rectangle tool and from the top left corner drag and drop to about a 3.5x10" rectangle. Now you will not always get it to be exact, but you can go to your scale icon in the top right-hand corner and adjust the size.
Select the rectangle and in the measurement box type in the dimensions and click apply.
Now that your rectangle is done lets create a perforated line in the middle for a nice fold. Select your line tool from the left toolbar and drag from one side of the card to the other. You don't have to make this exact either since it will be a perforated line. However, you probably want it in the center right? Select both the card and the line. There is a great feature I have told you about before, but just as a refresher...click on object from the menu bar at the top. Select align and then click align middle-center.
Now you have a great card base. You can either cut out your shape here or move on and import more objects in. I personally bring everything in that I will use to create my cards. Just so I can see how it will look before I ever cut my projects out.
I will now import a shape from my library that I recently purchased from my online store. This particular shape is a journaling card so I will need to remove some elements from it.
I do this my selecting the shape and right-clicking on my mouse selecting ungroup. You can also go to your object menu bar and select ungroup. Then you will delete the elements you don't want.
I only want the scallop as a mat for my card. You can do any resizing now as well.
Ok, I am wanting this to be a birthday card so I imported from my library a cute little candle. Make sure you resize it and then we will ungroup it so that I can cut the shape out individually and use an assortment of colors with it.
One last step before I teach you how to cut out your "pre-designed" card.
I want to add the number six to my card. I can do this either by choosing a shape from the store or my very own fonts. I personally love my fonts so I choose to use them. Click on your text toll from the left-hand toolbar and click anywhere on your document. Then type in your number. You can then change the size of your font from here.
I like to slide all of my images except my first cut off to the left of my art board see example below. Ok now we are ready to cut out our shapes and card. Remember the perforated line we created earlier? Let me tell you how to cut it out as a perforation only. Select your style options and by selecting the line only click on perforated line. Simple huh? Now your Silhouette will cut it as a perforation and not a solid line.
Now you are ready to cut out your card base. Click on the cut settings and choose your media dimensions and select send to Silhouette.

Heat Transfer
January 14, 2011
Ok it is that time again CHA!!! Aghhh! We are as busy as bees over here trying to get all the little details in order. I thought it would be fun to show you some shirts we made for the event. The funnest part of all was using our very own signature to create the names on our tags.
We wrote our name with a sharpie and scanned it into the computer. Once that was done we imported it into the Silhouette Studio software and hit auto-trace...*poof* Insta-name. Isnt that so cool??? For this project we used the flocked light blue heat transfer, smooth white, and smooth black.
If you are wondering what the auto trace button looks like its this little guy right here ------------------>
click on it and see the awesomeness..."there is no charge for awesomeness!" -kung fu panda You will absolutely LOVE it!
