I have done a fair share of tutorials on the rhinestone technique, but here is the getting started tutorial for those of you who want to purchase the rhinestones starter kit, or at least those of you who just want the kit in a real bad way...*wink*
Take a look inside and check out all the goodies. 2 rhinestone template material sheets, 2 transfer sheets, 2 backer boards, 3 colors of 10ss rhinestones, rhinestone brush, Instructional DVD, idea book and download card. There are technically 46 shapes as you receive the alphabet and the shapes ;) WINNING! Ha!
By now you know the drill...to download click on my account, if you haven't set one up yet you can
do so by clicking on free account in the online store. Under my account select the button that
says "Redeem Promotional Download Card" link. Then click "Apply Card".
It will take you directly to the place where you will be able to
download the shapes.
From here it will be downloaded to your library. If for some reason you
do not see them in your library you may need to recover the order.
Now that they are downloaded choose the shape you will be using. In this case it will be the pumpkin.
I ungrouped this shape and will be using the small pumpkin. It is to be used with the 10ss sized rhinestones. I will also duplicate it and create a column of 3 pumpkins.
Now that I have set up my design I will load the machine with a sheet of the rhinestone material. and cut out the pumpkins.
Once the template is all cut out you can trim it from the uncut portion and remove the paper backing. You will see a series of holes that form the rhinestone shape.
You can now place down on to the backer board.
Now its time to pour the rhinestones on and brush them in place. I like to use a firm back and forth s-shaped stroke to put them in place, but you may find your own special technique. Its one of those feel things. You will get it!
Any rhinestones that don't go in place can be placed with a pickmeup tool (this is not included in the starter kit) if you don't have one your fingers work great too!
Trim a large enough section of the transfer sheet and place on top of the rhinestone designs. Smooth the sheet out, once you have made sure you have a bond between the sheet and the rhinestones, you can peel it away.
The next step is to place the rhinestone design down onto your project and iron it down. You will iron in place using a pressing cloth for approx. 45 seconds.
After that is finished, remove the transfer sheet. I love, love how gorgeous the rhinestones make a project.

Thanks for the tutorial! Always something I've wanted to know how to do!
ReplyDeleteGlad to find your blog and tutorials on embellishing with rhinestones which is always so popular....after reviewing the 2012 Spring fashion shows looks like embellishing is huge for next season so I'll be sure to follow your posts more closely.
ReplyDeleteJust a quick note to let you know that a link to this post will be placed on CraftCrave in the Cutting category today [03 Oct 09:00pm GMT]. Thanks, Maria
ReplyDeleteA nice option to expand my use of the Silhouette (it's already my go-to first machine). The tutorial is really clear and looks easy to do the rhinestone designs.
ReplyDeleteI ordered the kit and can't wait to PLAY....Thanks for the tute!!
ReplyDeletethat is so awesome, what a cute shirt i like the ruffle down the side. how did you do that
ReplyDeleteI love this project and the concept - very ingenious. Before seeing a tutorial about 5 minutes ago, I thought you had to place each rhinestone on the garment by hand... thank goodness for You Tube!!! lol.
ReplyDeleteCan you purchase the carrier sheets and all the other consumables separately? and can you use the part of the sheet that you cut off? Seems an aweful waste if you couldn't. I'm thinking you maybe able to set your mat size in the software to be able to use the remaining part of the sheet?
Thanks in advance of any response,
